Quiz Time! How are you flowing through the world?

Chi (prounounced chee) is another word for energy.  Flow is a word we use to describe how smoothly we are moving in our lives.  Our goal to move through the world without obstacles to trip us up.  Take this quiz to find out how well you (& your chi!) are flowing through the world.

  1. If life was a movie, yours would be:

      a)      Classic Disney.  Always a happy ending.

b)      Bourne Identity.  You get it right eventually, but only after damage control

c)      Saw 4.  One horror after another

  1. The first thing you do when you hear your alarm clock is:

a)      Lie there and think about how great your day is going to be.  You’ve given yourself plenty of time to wake up slowly and get everything done

b)      Shut it off, hop out of bed and hit the shower.  You can’t have two bad-hair-days in a row

c)      Dig it out from the pile of books & then huck it across the room so the insane beeping stops

  1. Which best describes your bedroom?

a)      A perfect oasis and escape from the world

b)      A mostly clean place that gets some attention on the weekends

c)      A giant laundry basket.  Aliens could live there and you wouldn’t know

  1. Your make-up stash includes…

a)      Very little.  Just what you need

b)      The basics.  (except for your out of control lipstick collection)

c)      Absolutely everything.  If there was a world-wide make-up shortage, you’d be rich

If you answered mostly C)…

You don’t need life to throw you any obstacles.  All by yourself, you’re helping to create them!  First and foremost:  Declutter your world!  Think about good energy & opportunity as living entities.  How will they get into your door if all of your t-shirts in the way?  Once you’ve tackled the clutter, move on to the fine-tuning.

If you answered mostly B)…

Your life might feel smooth a lot of the time, but wouldn’t it be great if you could make it even better?  Do some tweaking.  Fix anything that’s broken.  Throw things away that you don’t use or love.  Be sure all of your closets and drawers are able to open and close easily.  Flow is all about things happening effortlessly.  If you get rid of the PHYSICAL obstacles (even the small things count!), everything else will happen more easily.

If you answered mostly A)… Go, girl.  You & your chi are making things happen. Make sure that you spread the word.

So You Want... A Fab, Fun-Filled Summer?!

I want this summer to be great but I keep thinking that my expectations are too high.  Last summer I felt the same but after my friends left for holidays I was really bored.  I want this summer to be good.

Woo Hoo!!

The long awaited summer has arrived!  And, if you’re like the rest of us, the anticipation is huge.  When you’re hanging with your BF’s or have some time to yourself, here are a few ideas that’ll make your summer better than ever:

1.  Update your bedroom!  So much can change during a school year that you totally want your bedroom to reflect all that is new and happening in your life NOW.  Maybe you’re ready to let go of that stuffed animal collection – (or maybe you want to hang onto it till next year!)  What about your screen saver?  Does it = you right now?  Help your bedroom express who you are and who you’re becoming.

2. Cul your clothes.  Does everything you have fit your bod and look fab?  Clothes don’t have to be expensive, or make you look like everyone else at school…in fact creating a look that you feel great in is where it’s at.  (tip:  Donate what you’ve grown out of!)

3.  Modify your makeup (and all your bathroom stuff).  The expiry dates on make-up are surprisingly short.  Make sure what you put on your face is good stuff.

4.  Be a visionary.  Make a vision board for next year (and the years after that).  Collect magazine pics and words and draw pics of what you want in your life. Create a collage, post it, and believe in your heart that all the good stuff is on its way… It’s a perfect BFF night activity… and every board will look different!

So You Want... Fab Opps!

My BFF seems to have really good stuff happen all the time.  It’s more than luck.  She finishes a babysitting course and then 3 days later a new family with 2 nice kids moves in next to her.  She wants to take this summer art class (that’s already booked) and then they call her cuz three people cancelled.  I’m trying not to be jealous.  But I want whatever magic she’s got…

Your BFF certainly has some magic stomping through her door.  Maybe it’s because she’s opened herself up to all the OPPORTUNITIES that are around.  There are a couple of things you can do to make sure YOU have all that good stuff flowing your way, too!

a)  Use the law of attraction to make sure you’ve got the energy on your side.  If you want something, visualize yourself as having it.  See yourself in the situation you want to be in.  FEEL what it’s like to have it. Then relax and let it come your way.

b)  Keep a wish list close by.  Read it lots and update it when you need to.

c)  In your bedroom, keep things uncluttered in every area!  And make sure that your bedroom entrance can be easily opened with no “blockages” (like your towel hanging on the doorknob)… You need to give opportunities all the room they need to come through YOUR door!!!

So You Want... an A+ Look!

“I’m so busy all the time.  But I want to look great for the summer.  I don’t have lots of time or $$ to go to the gym or anything.  Can Feng Shui help me?”

Looking great is something that comes shining through from your insides.  So use the Health section (right smack in the middle of your room) to remind yourself of all the little things you can do to get your A+ look.  Just posting a pic of you (when you looked happy and having fun) that you can see from your Health section can be a good motivator 4 U!

  • Good Sleep
  • Good Food
  • Relax To the Max

Good Sleep:  We know it’s too fun to IM all night… After all, your international buddies need some luv, too… But you can’t be looking your best if your bod is tired.  Start playing a bit of “hard to get” with your IM buds.  They can wait for you & your beauty sleep.

Good Food:  You don’t have to give it all up.  Try a couple of healthier habits.  Replace a soda with a glass of water.  Make sure you give yourself time to grab an apple for breakfast if you usually skip it.  Regular, healthy eating will give you the glow you crave.

Relax 2 the Max:  Relax much?  You should.  You totally deserve some pampering time.  Plan a cool spa night/p.j. party with your BFF’s and relax together.  Do your nails, a facial, and try out some new do’s… Relax to the max.

So You Want... To Be Heard Loud & Clear!

We know this is a big issue.  It’s tough to make sure our voices are heard loud and clear through all the loud chatter of life.  So in the next few weeks we’re going to be giving you some all-too-familiar scenarios and then the answers you’ve been wanting.

Wendy wrote:

I’m so mad at my parents – I’ve been talking to them about getting a job for a whole year now.  And I just had an opportunity to take one.  It wouldn’t be too many hours – cuz they’re all stressed about homework – but it’s in an art shop and they KNOW I want to be an artist.  How can I make them understand that I’m totally responsible?

Maybe your ‘rents are forgetting that you’ve grown up a bit and maybe they just aren’t hearing how bad you want this.  Sometimes we can say things a lot but parents are busy and often overloaded and maybe they just need another chance to HEAR you.

You might try writing a letter.  Let your parents know just how much this position means to you and how it connects to your goals.  The most important part of this is to let them know what other things you’ll be willing to sacrifice for the hours you’re spending there.  Maybe you’ll have to cut back your time at the mall to be sure you’re caught up on your homework?  Maybe you can tell them you’ll lose the half hour you spend on your cell each night after dinner?  Show them how important this is!

As for your trusty Feng Shui solution, even if you’re not being heard, don’t let life’s chatter drown out YOUR dreams for what you want to become.  Remind yourself in your space that you totally ARE an artist.  Use your artistic talents to express your goals and dreams in each area of your Feng Shui’d bedroom.  Make sure your Creativity area is in great shape.  Use pictures and art to express your dreams.  Help your homework happen more easily with a clear and organized homework zone.  AND… your ‘rents may take your request more seriously when they see the attention you put into your room!

So You Want... Some Cool Confidence!

Life is a crazy place!  Full of ups and downs.  It’s normal to feel like we’re out of place sometimes.  But if you want to boost that confidence factor, Feng Shui is a fun place to start.

On the map, (and in your space) there are a few places where you can help to amp up your confidence and feel great about who you are.

Image:  Check out this area and make sure that this part of your room reflects who you really are…  And who you want to become!  Don’t hang onto old stuff that doesn’t make you feel terrific. Win a medal in your soccer final? Hang it up to remind yourself that you can be the super sports star you dream of being!  The colors red and orange can help image.   So can green. The triangle shape – things that point upwards – you need power shapes here.  If you have any pictures of animals, or faux animal prints, this is the place to put them!

Self Knowledge:  It’s too early to map out your whole life – but it’s never too early to celebrate your accomplishments!  Got a good grade on your poetry project?  Put it on display to remind yourself how creative you are!    Mountain images can help you in this part of your room.  So can the colors green and dark blue. Some students even like to do their homework in their Self Knowledge area!

The better you know yourself… and the better you learn to project who you really are, the better you’ll feel about how you fit into the world!!!  Go Girl!  Rule Your World!

So You Want... Some Family Luv!

It’s tough to talk to the ‘rents.  That’s a given.  But maybe some Feng Shui can help you pave the way for some good new parental understanding…  After all, the days are getting longer and there’s lots of spring and summer stuff you want to do.  Time to set up some good communication with all the people who you share the house with.

Family Feng Shui Fixes:

In your bedroom space (or wherever space), check out your Family section and then plant some seeds of luv – Be sure that your family members are represented in this section of your room.  Pictures of you guys on vacation… a cool postcard your mom sent from her conference… The funny note your little brother gave you last week…  And if you have a wish list of things you want to do with your family, keep it here.

Sometimes it’s hard to relate with the people you live with… So here are some bonus tips for keeping in touch as you’re all flying around with your busy lives:

  • Book a Feng Shui date for you and your mom.  Take the Feng Shui map and make some changes around the house.  Two brains are better than one - and you can watch for the good results together.
  • Start a family notepad you write notes to everyone in.  That way, if you keep missing your big sis because her schedule is so wacky, you can totally leave her cute notes and she can keep up with what you’re doing.  Tell everyone they need to write you back, too!
  • Get together once in a while to keep a family wish-list.  It can be as simple as wanting to try all the wacky fruit in the grocery store to dreaming about the big family vacation you’re all wanting.

If you’ve got some other thoughts, now’s the time to write to us!  Leave your fabulous “So You Want…” ideas in the comments section!

So You Want... A Spring Makeover - Part 2!

Did you finish Part One of your Bedroom Makeover?  If not, scroll down and start with last weeks tips.  (Yup.  Declutter it all…)  If you’ve managed to clear all the extra stuff out, you’re more than ready to get the good stuff flowing.

Now that your space is clean and decluttered, take a good long look at the Feng Shui Map.  Which areas of your life need a bit of extra TLC? A few areas?  All of them?  No worries!

Write down a wish or two for each section of the map. Word your wish as if had already come true (see the examples below the map if that sounds too weird). Imagine yourself in the near future and what you would like to feel, see, do, smell, taste, experience… First think about it, then write about it, then feel it – really feel it -  as if it were already true.

This would be a super-fun girl’s night activity – so get the girl’s over and plan your fab futures…

So You Want... A Spring Bedroom Makeover!

So You Want… A Spring Bedroom Make-Over!

Part 1:  Preparing for the Room of Your Dreams

With the spring thing comes a desire to show off your divalicious side.  That means refreshing your digs.  We’re giving a few tips via a super cool TWO PART Feng Shui bedroom make-over lesson. This week is Part One!

Start with a Clean Canvas:

No artist would start out with a messy canvas.  To prepare your room for the art of fabulousness, you can start by testing out the Love it or Lose it Rule with all of your stuff.

Look at each and every thing in your bedroom and ask yourself if you Love It and use it. If you do – it’s a keeper.  If not, find it a new home.  Be totally ruthless (especially with those old treasures that no longer reflect who U are TODAY and who U want 2 become).

If you’re having a really, really hard time get your BFF to come over and help you put the things you aren’t quite ready to part with into a box.  If you put something in a box and don’t need it for a while, you might be able to let it go later.

Finally, double check each Feng Shui area in your room one last time for things you have outgrown, or things you need to take care of.  Then give each area a good clean as if you are polishing that part of your life.

(and stay tuned for PART TWO next week…)

So You Want… Some of Spring’s Power!

You’ve put up with the doldrums of winter long enough.  With Spring right around the corner, you may be feeling restless and ready to move some of your dreams into action.

Now is the perfect time to set some things in motion that will help you achieve all of your plans.  In Feng Shui there are 5 important elements.

They are:         Wood (associated with Spring!)

                        Fire (associated with Summer)

                        Earth (associated with Late Summer)

                        Metal (associated with Autumn)

                        Water (associated with Winter)

These elements all support one another (just like you and your BFFs) – so it’s important to have a balance of things that represent these elements in your space.  But since we’re thinking spring, let’s check our spaces and make sure our WOOD element is there!

You don’t need to go crazy putting up wood paneling.

The kinds of things that can represent WOOD in your space are books, paper, plants, stripes, floral patterns, columns…anything that is made of wood or looks like it is made of wood.

Think about displaying things like:

A wooden picture frame

A bamboo area rug

A pad of (recycled, unbleached) paper

An organized bookcase

Also, the colors associated with the WOOD element are blues & greens and the shapes associated are tall, vertical rectangles – like columns or tree trunks.

Spring is the perfect time for you to plant the seeds to make your best you…
